The grand commencement of the 3rd Batch of the Diploma in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) - 2026/2027 Programme was successfully held on 22nd August 2026 at the Auditorium of the Centre for External Degrees and Extension Courses (CEDEC), Eastern University, Sri Lanka.
The inauguration ceremony marked a significant milestone in the academic journey of the newly enrolled students who are aspiring to enhance their knowledge and skills in the field of Information and Communication Technology. The programme is jointly offered by the Faculty of Science and the Centre for External Degrees and Extension Courses (CEDEC), Eastern University, Sri Lanka.
The event was attended by distinguished academics, university officials, staff members, and enthusiastic students. The ceremony commenced with registration followed by the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.
The welcome address was delivered by Mrs. S. Thavareesan, Coordinator of the Diploma in ICT Programme. The inaugural address was subsequently presented by Prof. (Mrs.) Jeyapraba Suresh, Acting Director of CEDEC, who emphasized the importance of ICT education in the rapidly evolving digital era.
An introduction to the programme was provided by Dr. (Mrs.) S. Sathaananthan, Chairperson of the Board of Study, highlighting the academic structure, learning outcomes, and future opportunities available to students through the Diploma in ICT Programme.
The Chief Guest Address was delivered by Mrs. T. Pio Jude Navinthan, Dean of the Faculty of Science, who encouraged students to make the best use of the educational opportunities provided by Eastern University, Sri Lanka, and to develop the competencies required to excel in the modern technological landscape.
The ceremony concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. V. Pragash, Senior Assistant Registrar of CEDEC. The event successfully set the stage for a new cohort of students embarking on their academic and professional journey in Information and Communication Technology.
