In view of Sri Lanka University Games 2016, the organizing University has planned to organize an Olympic torch parade among Universities. For the First time in the History of the SLUG, the 12th Sri Lanka University Games-2016 Olympic Parade Relay starts from the University of Jaffna Playground on 26 August. It was planned to go through all 14 state Universities. As per the schedule, on 27th of August the flame came to the Eastern University Sri Lanka. With the presence of our Vice Chancellor and council members it was lightened up in Eastern University. Thereafter the torch was handed over to South Eastern University on same date. Sports council was fully engaged in this function and made this event a huge success.

The 2nd Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship – 2016 was held in Macua,China from 19th to 24th July 2016. Mr. M. Paranithasan, Coordinator, Physical Education, Eastern University Sri Lanka was appointed as the Head of Dedication /Coach for both Men and Women teams which represented Sri Lanka on the above tournament. Two of the Eastern University students were selected for the Men is team.

Our team secured 2^nd Runner Up in the Inter University Mixed Netball Tournament, which was organized by University of Peradeniya held on 02nd and 03rd of April, 2016 at Peradeniya. Furthermore our University player Mr S Uganthan was awarded as the Best Center Court Player of the tournament.

Invitational Battlefield 16 badminton championship 2016 was held in 09^th and 10^th April 2016 at university of peredeniya. The students and staff teams of EUSL were participated in this tournament. Altogether 08 state university staff and students teams are competed for the title.

Physical Education and Sports Council conducted Inter Faculty Games and Track &Field Championship 2016 successfully with the support of Sports Advisory Board and Administration, EUSL. The Faculty of Arts &Culture emerged as Overall Champion

Badminton Tournament for staff (Men/Women) conducted on 26th of January 2016 to promote and encourage the EUSL staff in sports.

In accordance with a proposal made by the Ministry of Sports on the directions of His Excellency the President, the government has declared the week commencing from 25th to 30th January 2016 in all Government Institutions and Higher Educational Institutions as National Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Week. This national programme is intended to initiate effective action to contain the incidence of non-communicable diseases rapidly spreading in Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, this programme was, successfully conducted by the Department of Physical Education, EUSL on 26th of January 2016 (8.00am to 6.00pm).Arabic exercise with Music, 2km walk and sports activities for staff were conducted. The Vice Chancellor of EUSL Dr. T Jayasingam was the Chief Guest for this programme. The Special Guest was the Former Competent Authority Prof.Uma Coomaraswamy.
